This is the newer side of The Odd Hat Creative. I am building a small commission practice around subjects that carry some personal weight rather than offering every possible style of commissioned artwork at once.
Pet Portraits
Portraits made from your own photographs, with the emphasis on character rather than simply reproducing the photograph. Suitable for gifts, keepsakes or memorial pieces.
Place Portraits
Homes, HDB blocks, shophouses, neighbourhoods, wedding venues and other places that mean something specific to the person commissioning the work.
Memory Pieces
More layered pieces combining illustration, photographs, typography and personal ephemera around a particular period, person, place or memory.

I am currently producing the first dedicated commission samples rather than filling this page with unrelated older work. As the portfolio develops, this page will show finished pieces, process details, formats and commission pricing.
If you already have a pet, place or memory-piece idea in mind, you can still get in touch. I will tell you whether it suits the work I am developing before either of us commits to anything.
How a commission will work
- You send suitable photographs or reference material and a short description of what matters about the subject.
- I confirm the format, price and expected turnaround.
- A deposit secures the commission slot.
- I prepare the agreed composition or sketch before moving into the finished work.
- The final artwork is delivered once the balance is settled.
The first sample series
I am building the commission portfolio from self-initiated pieces rather than inventing a history of paid commissions. These are the first subjects planned for the series. As each piece is completed, the finished artwork and process images will replace the project notes below.
01 — Pet Portrait
Status: planned sample
A close portrait focused on expression and character, made from a strong reference photograph.
02 — Pet in Place
Status: planned sample
A second pet piece with more of the animal’s environment included, testing how much setting belongs in a commission.
03 — Home Portrait
Status: planned sample
A residential portrait built around a real home or HDB setting, with emphasis on the details that make a familiar place specific.
04 — Singapore Place
Status: planned sample
A recognisable local building, shophouse or neighbourhood scene treated as a personal place rather than a tourist illustration.
05 — Memory Piece
Status: planned sample
A layered piece combining illustration, photographs, typography and personal ephemera around one period or event.
06 — Personal Study
Status: planned sample
A less commercial piece with no commission brief attached — useful for finding where the studio work might go when nobody is asking for a particular answer.
I will label these as personal work or commission samples when they are published. Paid client work will be identified separately.
